Who can apply for housing with These Homes North East?
Anyone aged 16 or over can register. You need to complete the online application to register and give us details on your current reasons for moving. Once registered you can start applying for properties.
Can I withdraw my registration if I no longer wish to remain registered?
Yes – if at any time you wish your registration to be cancelled you can request this online or by calling us directly.
What is a priority pass?
Priority passes are awarded to registered applicants who need to move for particular reasons. This allows us to allocate properties to applicants in the greatest housing need.
How do I know if I qualify for a priority pass?
We award priority for a number of different categories including medical reasons, overcrowding and homelessness. The information you provide in the Reasons for Moving section in the application is what we look at when making a priority assessment. Details on what we give priority for can be found in our Allocations Policy.
How will I know which properties are available?
All our available properties will be advertised on this website, in local newspapers and in our offices. There will also be the ability to receive email notifications for properties that meet your requirements. The advert will contain information the property location, rent, size, special features and any eligibility requirements.
How can I apply for a property that is advertised?
If you see a property advertised, you can apply through this website or by phoning or visiting our office. Each advertised property has a closing date, and you must apply before this date.
Can I apply for more than one property at a time?
Yes, you can apply for any number of eligible properties per advertising period, however, you will not be offered more than one property at any one time. We take your choice order into consideration when making our allocations, so you should apply for your 1st choice property first, 2nd choice property second etc.
How do you decide who is offered a property?
Once the closing date has ended, all applications are compiled as a shortlist, ranked according to the advertised criteria. We will then contact the applicant who best meets the criteria to discuss the potential offer of the property.
How will I know if I have been successful?
If you do not hear within 5 working days, you can assume you have been unsuccessful. You should continue to apply for any other suitable advertised properties.
If the property you have applied for is a new build, then the landlord may take longer than 5 days to contact the successful applicant due to the number of properties available for allocation but will aim to make contact as soon as they can.
What will happen if I am made a formal offer?
We will make a formal offer in writing. If you are made an offer of a property you will not be able to apply for any other properties.
What if I turn down the offer?
You can refuse any offer of property made to you, however, this may affect your application. We conduct a 2 refusal policy, if you refuse two properties unreasonably within a one year period then your application with us will be suspended for 6 months. For information on when a refusal is unreasonable, please contact our office.
What if my circumstances change?
If you have a change in circumstances, you can make the changes required by logging in and updating your application. You may also be prompted to complete other parts of your application that these changes affect, and your priority may then require to be reassessed.
What if I am homeless?
If you think you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, you should contact your local authority for further assistance and advice.
Can somebody apply on my behalf?
Yes. If you are unable to apply, and you have made alternative arrangements with us, the nominated person may apply for a property on your behalf.
Can I withdraw an application for a property?
Yes. You can either do this yourself through the website or you can contact us directly and we can cancel the application for you.
